Wild Rockies Development Team

Wild Rockies Race Team’s goal is to develop junior cyclists in Idaho by providing professional coaching, education, high-level programming, fitness and skills development, race support, while developing camaraderie and team spirit.

Race Team applications are open and will close January 15th.  For previous team athletes, please reapply.

The team is for athletes going into 8th grade and upwards in the Fall of 2024. Please reach out with questions.

Wild Rockies Race Team Details

$165 per month or $1200 paid upfront for the RACE TEAM starting February 1st through NICA State Championships.  8 months of training and going forward Fall 2024 we will also have options for athletes who want to train annually.  Included in the cost of the program:

  • Weekly training plan through Training Peaks prepared by Coach Ben Stein
  • Strength training and spin classes at Peak Fitness coached by Yadi, 2-3 times per week until we start riding outdoors
  • In-person coach led and supported rides and skills training 2 days per week once we can ride outdoors
  • Training plan will sync with NICA athletes once NICA training begins
  • Bike Fits by Ben Stein (onthebikeidaho.com) at no charge in McCall
  • Optional VO2 and/or lactate threshold testing at no charge in Boise
  • Support at races includes coached pre-rides, race day bike mechanic, pitzone area, feed handoffs for races where applicable (races TBD based on attendance of athletes)
  • We will have some discounted bike opportunities coming January

Athletes will need:
  • Mountain Bike
  • Gravel or cross bike
  • Heart rate monitor and bike computer
  • To purchase a kit, jersey and shorts to race in

  • Twisted Turtle Coyotte Classic, Avimor, April 27th
  • USAC Solider Hollow, Utah, May 9th-12th
  • Missoula MSCX, June 7th-9th
  • Twisted Turtle 9-5, June 22nd at Jug Mountain 
  • Galena Grinder, July 6th at Galena
  • XC Nationals July 17-21, Bear Creek Mtn. Resort, PA
  • Twisted Turtle Brundage MT. XC, Date TBD
